从10月1日起，梅州抽水蓄能电站每天可以自主向电力交易市场申报第二天的抽水发电能力以及对应的预期电价。在电力市场上，用电高峰时电价高，用电低谷时电价低。此次进入电力市场后，电站通过低价买电抽水，高价放水发电，机组运行更灵活，每天的启动次数也有所增加，达到5到6次，是自主参与市场交易前的一至两倍。
